Topping the Music Charts

Music is a staple of the summer season. Whether it be compositions fighting for the coveted “Song of the Summer” title or the radio spitting out hit song after hit song, music is definitely one of the universal mediums that encapsulates the essence of summer.

And once again, Discovery Park is getting in on the action.

Directly adjacent to the newly relocated Parker Library, Discovery Park has an ice skating trail in the winter, interactive fountains for kids in the summer, and a year-long view of Artist Christopher Weed’s “Jacks” sculpture. But, Parker Arts has something else in store this season: free outdoor concerts.

Every Thursday evening at 6 p.m., until the beginning of August, the open-air amphitheater at the park will host live band performances. Anyone is welcome to pull up a lawn chair or picnic basket and get their weekend started early; a good portion of Parker accepts this invitation, as each performance historically attracts over 1,000 people. Concessions are sold at the park and food trucks are scheduled to drop by as well.

Starting with the rock band Last Men on Earth, attendees can expect nights of soul, jazz, swing and 70’s and 80's dance music, provided by some of the highest-rated musical groups in Colorado.

  1. Hey Erika!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I grew up with something very similar in Denver called "City Park Jazz." Families could bring picnic baskets and drinks and enjoy the warm days with some cool jazz. I may have to stop in at Parker and check this out.
